Office of the Vice President
Liberia’s Vice President assists the President in the Executive Branch and, under the Constitution, also serves as President of the Liberian Senate.

In office since 22 January 2024.
Elected with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. in the 2023 presidential runoff.
Deputy to the President
Article 51 provides that the Vice President assists the President, attends Cabinet and other governmental meetings, and performs functions assigned by the President within constitutional limits.
President of the Senate
The Vice President presides over Senate deliberations and does not vote except to break a tie. This office is therefore constitutionally connected to both branches.
How the dual role works
Within the Executive
The Vice President is elected on the same ticket and serves the same term as the President. The office supports executive coordination and undertakes duties lawfully delegated by the President.
Within the Senate
As President of the Senate, the Vice President presides but is not one of the thirty elected senators. In the Vice President’s absence, the President Pro Tempore presides.
Succession
The Vice President is first in the constitutional line of presidential succession and assumes the Presidency if that office becomes vacant under Article 63.
Where this office appears on Liberia Civic
To reflect the Constitution accurately, the Vice Presidency is listed in the Executive Branch as the deputy national executive and cross-linked from the Legislative Branch because the officeholder is President of the Senate.
