The Presidency of Liberia
The constitutional office that leads the Executive Branch, directs the national government and serves as Liberia’s head of state.

In office since 22 January 2024.
Elected with Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung on the Unity Party ticket in the 2023 presidential election.
Three national roles
Article 50 vests executive power in the President, who serves as Head of State, Head of Government, and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Liberia.
Six-year elected term
The President is elected by registered voters and may serve no more than two terms under the 1986 Constitution.
What the Presidency does
Leads the Executive
Directs national administration, appoints officials as authorized by law, chairs the Cabinet and coordinates ministries and agencies.
Represents the Republic
Conducts foreign relations, receives diplomatic representatives and speaks for Liberia in international affairs, subject to constitutional checks.
Executes the laws
Ensures that laws are faithfully implemented and submits national priorities, reports and proposed measures to the Legislature.
National security
Serves as Commander-in-Chief while remaining subject to the Constitution, statutes and the oversight powers of the other branches.
Checks, accountability and succession
The Presidency operates within a separation-of-powers system. Legislation, appointments, public finance, treaties and emergency powers involve constitutional roles for the Legislature and Judiciary. The Vice President is first in the constitutional line of succession and assumes the Presidency when the office becomes vacant under Article 63.
