Technical and Vocational Education and Training in Liberia

Technical and vocational education and training—TVET—develops practical and technical skills for employment, self-employment, further education, and national development.

Fields of training

Programs may cover construction trades, electrical work, mechanics, agriculture, hospitality, health support, tailoring, beauty services, information technology, maritime skills, mining-related work, and other occupations. Course titles do not by themselves prove equipment, instruction, or recognized certification.

Institutions and apprenticeships

Training occurs in public and private institutes, community programs, workplaces, and informal apprenticeships. Traditional apprenticeship provides valuable skill transfer but may lack consistent safety, assessment, written terms, or recognized progression.

Quality and certification

Quality requires competent instructors, functioning equipment, safe workshops, appropriate curriculum, supervised practice, transparent assessment, and certificates recognized by employers and authorities.

Connecting training to work

Programs should be informed by real labor demand without training everyone for a narrow occupation. Outcomes include completion, competency, job placement, earnings, enterprise survival, further study, employer satisfaction, and participant experience.

Access and inclusion

Fees, distance, stereotypes, disability barriers, entry requirements, and lack of information can exclude learners. Women and girls should have full access to technical fields, and all workshops should maintain safeguarding and anti-harassment standards.

Program accountability

Future directories will verify provider authorization, location, course duration, fees, equipment, credential, intake dates, complaint contacts, and latest inspection. Scholarships will be listed only from current official notices.
