2024 Nimba Senate and Grand Gedeh District 1 By-Elections

Liberia held two legislative by-elections on 23 April 2024: a senatorial contest in Nimba County and a House of Representatives contest in Grand Gedeh County Electoral District 1.

Why the elections were held

The National Elections Commission conducted the polls to fill vacancies in the Legislature. This archive entry records the contests separately from the 2023 general election so that changes in representation remain visible over time.

Certified winners and official totals

  • Nimba County Senate: Nya D. Twayen Jr. of the Unity Party received 67,138 votes, or 59.27% of valid votes.
  • Grand Gedeh District 1 House seat: Jeremiah Garwo Sokan Sr., an independent candidate, received 3,168 votes, or 30.74% of valid votes.

Election administration

Voting took place on 23 April 2024. Tallying began on 24 April at the NEC magisterial offices in Nimba and Grand Gedeh. The NEC announced the final results on 26 April and certificated both winners on 6 May 2024 after the constitutional complaints period.
