2007 Nimba County District 6 By-Election

A House vacancy in Nimba County

Nimba County Electoral District 6 held a representative by-election after the death of Representative David Saye Maneh of the Unity Party on 15 October 2006. The first round was held on 6 February 2007, followed by a runoff later that month.

Runoff result

Evans Vaye Koah of the Unity Party won the runoff with 8,466 votes (71.4%). Paul Duo Tuazama Sr. of the Liberia Action Party received 3,384 votes (28.6%).

All 54 polling places reported. The National Elections Commission recorded 11,850 valid votes and 219 invalid ballots, for 12,069 ballots cast. Invalid ballots represented 1.8% of the total.

Candidate qualification dispute

Before the election, objections were filed against Koah’s candidacy under the constitutional residency requirement. Liberia’s Supreme Court ultimately concurred with the NEC’s handling of the matter, allowing his candidacy to proceed.
