Liberia voted on 7 May 1907 in an uncontested national election held alongside major constitutional amendments.
Executive election
President Arthur Barclay and Vice President James Jenkins Dossen, the True Whig Party ticket, were elected without opposing candidates. A contemporary diplomatic report stated that the party had absorbed its competitors and that its standard-bearers faced no opposition.
Legislative election
Voters also chose members of the Senate and House of Representatives. Candidate-level and constituency-level legislative returns have not yet been located in accessible archival sources.
Constitutional referendum
The amendments were the central issue of the campaign and received the required two-thirds support. They extended the presidential term from two to four years, Senate terms from four to six years, and House terms from two to four years. They also required an election to fill a vice-presidential vacancy caused by death.
Historical significance
The result placed Barclay’s third term under the new four-year rule and reshaped Liberia’s election calendar. No presidential election was held in 1909; the next took place in 1911.
