Education Data and County Access in Liberia

Liberia Civic education collection

Reliable education data helps Liberia locate underserved communities, plan teachers and classrooms, monitor participation, and measure whether learners are progressing. Every figure should identify its source, year, population, geography, and definition.

Core education measures

Important measures include school location and status, enrollment, attendance, age-for-grade, repetition, dropout, transition, completion, examination participation, assessed learning, teacher deployment, disability access, water and sanitation, electricity, internet access, and travel time.

County and local inequality

National averages can conceal major differences between counties, districts, urban and rural communities, sexes, disability groups, ages, and school types. The 2022 census education report identifies distance to school as a major barrier and documents wide urban-rural differences.

Use the right denominator

Enrollment counts alone cannot show access. Rates must use an appropriate school-age population, while attendance, completion, and learning require their own measures. Administrative records, censuses, household surveys, and assessments answer different questions and should not be treated as interchangeable.

Responsible publication

Public dashboards should show update dates, missing values, definitions, revisions, and geographic coverage. Student-level records require strong privacy safeguards; public reporting should normally use safe aggregated data.
